Biographical note

The Department of Education was formed in 1992 to replace the Department of Education and Science, which itself had been formed in 1964. The Department of Education was expanded in 1995 to become the Department for Education and Employment. It changed once again in 2001, this time to become Department for Education and Skills. Between 2007-2010 education was the responsibility of the Department for Children, Schools and Families before once again coming under the Department of Education in 2010.
