About this work

Description

Visualisation of endoplasmic reticulum (e.r.) during Drosophila development, using the fluorescent lipophilic dicarbocyanine dye DiI. A close-up view that shows the nuclei well. The animation shows the e.r. in a portion of the embryo through two cell cycles, showing in detail the localisation of the DiI signal. During mitosis the signal is strongest at spindle poles, but no in the spindle itself. At telophase, there is accumulation of DiI at the midbody. During telophase the DiI signal becomes dispersed through the periplasm. Nuclei do not take up the dye, so remain black.
