Correspondence

The files in this series reflect Crick's growing involvement with the Salk Institute over time, comprising correspondence and memoranda on the day-to-day running of the Institute and matters such as personnel policies, research programmes, Institute symposia and events, Academic Council elections etc.

The series includes two sets of photographs showing the Institute site in early phases of construction.

In What Mad Pursuit (1988), pp. 144-5, Crick notes: "For twelve years, from shortly after the official start of the institute on December 1, 1960, I had been a nonresident Fellow (effectively a member of a visiting committee), and indeed I had been involved with it even before it started. In the very early days 'Bruno' Bronowski and I would fly from London to Paris to consult with Jonas Salk, Jacques Monod, Mel Cohn, and Ed Lennox on such fascinating topics as the by-laws for the proposed institute."
