A notice above the door to the cell (on the inside): "Silentiu(m)", meaning silence. A notice above Francis's bed says: "Quid retribuam D(omi)no pro omnibus quae retribuit mihi. Psa.", meaning, 'What shall I pay back to the Lord for all the things that he has given to me? Psalms.'
Lettering continues before the dedication with six lines of verses in Latin: "Coepit, et extemplo genius chelii ludere cessat ... Maior apud superos unica gutta mari."
