Biographical note
Ainslie, Sir Whitelaw (1767-1837), surgeon, born in Berwickshire. In 1788, he was appointed assistant surgeon in the East India Company's service. When Ainslie arrived in India, he was appointed garrison surgeon of Chingleput. After retirement from the East India Company's service, he immersed himself in writing on medicine and the history of India. He died in 1837.
