    T , HE complaint of which this essay professes to treat, is a disease of the Tibia, in which a small opening * is generally discovered, in the integuments covering its internal side, through which a probe may be passed into the cavity of the bone, where one or more loose pieces of bone are usually found, which being confined, from their being often of larger dimensions than the opening in the Tibia, prevent the healing of ihe ulcer. Having observed that in almost all the cases of this kind, which I have had in hand, the complaint had been preceded by fever, I have been led to consider the disease in question, as a febrile affection of the part. I should inform the reader, that the ease, now before him, is not one which frequently occurs.
