About this work
Description
Oscar Pistorius was born with only 2 toes and a few bones in his feet. His parents made the decision to have his legs amputated when he was a baby and he has been using prosthetics ever since. Now he is the fastest disabled runner ever recorded and wants to be allowed to compete against able-bodied runners. However, the international circuit believe that his prosthetic running blades give him an unfair advantage over able-bodied runners. The documentary looks back over Oscar's life and covers both sides of the argument around his desire to cross the boundary between disabled and able-bodied athletics. Detailed tests are carried out to test whether or not his legs give him an unfair advantage and show that the prosthetic blades return 90% of the energy Oscar puts into them, rather than the 60% return an able-bodied athlete generally gets. Oscar is banned from competing in the Olympics.
