Though dealing largely with fertilizers, p.12 describes the "sanitary effect" of the fumes from their "manufacture of sulphuric acid" on "all parts of the surrounding neighbourhood". These fumes are said to have cured "fevers and agues ... and even a case of small pox"
The catalogue celebrates Lawes' "Fiftieth season" and has a decorative cover bearing the arms of Queen Victoria and Prince Edward, to whose farms Lawes supply manures. There is space at the foot of the cover for the sales agents to overprint with their own details.
