Contents

Segment 1 The intertitles describe what inflammation is and three possible causes for it: physical, chemical and bacterial. Two simple forms of inflammation are demonstrated, the first is a response to a scratch and the second is a boil caused by bacteria. Intertitles explain how inflammation occurs, and an animation shows how inflammation spreads from the centre of infection. A microscopic view of blood in an inflamed area is shown. A patient with inflamed hands is shown. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:05:35:22 Length: 00:05:35:22
Segment 2 Intertitles explain how 'poisons' upset the normal tissue fluid exchange. An illustration of a blood capillary is shown, and intertitles explain how capillaries work, and how inflammation occurs in them. Animations of blood proteins are shown. Intertitles explain in detail how inflammation spreads. Time start: 00:05:35:22 Time end: 00:11:00:13 Length: 00:05:24:16
Segment 3 Intertitles explain how white blood cells react to a damaged area. A microscopic view of white blood cells is shown. The movement of white blood cells is shown in an animation. The intertitles explain how white cells can lead to a build-up of pus. This is shown in an animation. A large boil on a patient is shown. An incision is made and a large amount of pus escapes from the boil. A boil on the leg of a baby boy is also drained. A time lapse view of a boil healing is shown. Time start: 00:11:00:13 Time end: 00:17:10:00 Length: 00:06:09:12
