About this work

Description

Research in Britain, Canada and Germany has proved that vehicle exhaust pollution is an exacerbating factor in provoking asthma attacks. With asthma on the increase in Britain, the film sets out to emphasise the seriousness of this illness and the lack of attention it receives from the present government who continue to allow vehicles to use fuel which produces toxic fumes and to allow the building of main roads - the Limehouse Link is one such instance - right through residential areas. In the days of smog, people died from bronchitis. Now, nitrogen dioxide from vehicle exhaust reacts with sunlight to form ozone, provoking asthma attacks which can be fatal. Nitrogen dioxide is not only a danger to asthma sufferers; it provokes sensitivity to other allergens and is thought to damage the lungs. An alternative to petrol is urgently needed but there is no sign that this is a government priority
