Description
The subject is given as identified by Bartsch, loc. cit. Numa Pompilius was the second king of Rome, after Romulus. According to Livy, he compiled some "sacred books" of rules for religious practices. They were buried with him, subsequently disinterred, found to be harmful to religion and publicly burned
