About this work
Description
Some papers relating to the Egyptian expedition. The papers comprise inventories of equipment and muster returns, with some accounts and intelligence reports. There is also a copy of a decoded despatch from Bonaparte to the Revolutionary government, dated Cairo, 10 Messidor VII [29 June 1799] describing the situation of his army, and giving some details of health conditions. The papers were probably among the debris of the French occupation of Egypt taken by the British in 1801. One document is endorsed in a contemporary hand 'Sir Sidney Smith' [Sir William Sidney Smith (1764-1840), in command of H.M.S. Tigre which took part in the campaign.
