Biographical note
Acton, William John (1812/13-1875), surgeon specializing in genito-urinary disorders, born in Dorset. In 1940, he obtained membership at the College of Surgeons. He became a successful consulting surgeon and his practice was confined to the disorders of the urinary and generative organs. Acton was also interested in the social issues with which these diseases were connected. In 1875, he died of the degeneration of the heart.
