A defense of the author's De pulvere sympathico dissertatio, 1647, against the views expressed in Isaac Cattier's De la poudre de sympathie, 1650, which Papin considered to be an attack on his earlier work, although Cattier, in his Response à Monsieur Papin, 1651, protests that he had not been aware of Papin's work when he prepared his discourse.
