About this work

Description

Collection of receipts in German for the making of cordials, wine, salves, plasters, fumigations, powders, theriacs, perfumes, pills, balsams and essences: together with various remedies and cures. The work seems to be written by the same hand throughout, and is apparently unfinished. The first section concerns 'Allerley Aquaevitae [etc.]', and begins with 'Dass rott Aquavitae, wie es meine liebe Frau Mutter von der Churfürsten von Sachsen bekommen'. From other names of physicians quoted in the text, this MS. seems to have been compiled in the early 18th cent. This dating seems to be supported by an entry on p. 59: 'Augenwasser wie michs Graff Gottlieb von Windischgräz gelehret'; the Count, who was born in 1630 died in 1695.
