Photograph of a Kovave bark mask, painted red, brown and white, used in initiation ceremonies of the Elema people of the Papuan Gulf, New Guinea. This item was bought at auction from Stevens in August 1931 and accessioned by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum (R8259/1936) but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
