About this work

Description

Transmission electron micrograph of part of a muscle cell showing mitochondria with disrupted cristae and crystalline inclusions. Mitochondrial crystals may be made of either mineral ions or proteins and often occur in certain metabolic disorders. They are associated with the disruption of normal mitochondrial structures which reduces energy production and would make a person feel tired and lethargic. It may be related to conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome (ME).
